Potassium & Fibre

Potassium is a mineral that keeps the heart and muscles working properly. Healthy kidneys keep the right amount of potassium in your body. In kidney disease, you often need to limit the amount of potassium in the diet. Excessive potassium in your body affects muscle contractions and your heart function. Consuming enough fibre helps your body eliminating more potassium.

Bone Building Nutrients

Phosphate, calcium, and magnesium are essential in supporting bone growth and maintenance. Kidney disease can result in a build-up of phosphate in the blood which can damage your bones and your blood vessels. Meal plans appropriately restricts the amount of phosphate and provides adequate calcium and magnesium to support your bone health.

Sodium

Limiting sodium in the diet can help control body water balance and blood pressure. Hypertension, high blood pressure, damages the blood vessels that feed the kidneys.

Protein

For people with kidney disease who are not on dialysis, a diet lower in protein is recommended. Limiting the amount of protein, choosing high-quality sources, and including more plant-based foods in the diet may help slow the loss of kidney function. Meal plans incorporate fish and plant-based protein sources like edamame, beans, and quinoa. In contrast, If you are receiving dialysis therapy, you need additional proteins to support your body. Your protein target will be clarified during the consultation.
